In Knit&Note, you can find knitting patterns by many talented designers, and we want you to get to know them even better! Every month, we will interview one of our designers, get to know them a little better, and maybe learn a few things we didn’t already know. The designer of the month in April is Marita, better known as Secondknit.

Who are you?
I’m Marita Harvey, a knitwear designer and the creator behind “secondknit.” I’ve always had a love for knitting—it’s become my way of expressing myself. I live on the beautiful island of Senja with my Australian husband and our three kids – life is full of chaos, color, and inspiration!
Tell us a bit about your knitting journey
Knitting has been a part of my life for as long as I can remember. I learned to knit as a child, and over time it’s become a natural part of my everyday life. I love how knitting combines creativity with craftsmanship, and it always brings me a sense of calm.

What made you start designing?
I’ve always had lots of ideas I wanted to try out, and as I began making more advanced garments, I wanted to share them with others. The design process gives me the chance to bring those ideas to life, and I love creating something unique.
What inspires your design process?
I often knit what I feel is missing in my own wardrobe, and I’m inspired by the style of the people around me. The nature on Senja also gives me lots of inspiration, with its dramatic seasons and colors. I enjoy exploring new techniques and creative solutions in knitwear design.

What do you do when you’re not knitting?
When I’m not knitting, you’ll find me on the volleyball court, hiking one of Senja’s incredible mountain peaks, spending time with my family—or working! I’m always looking for new ways to challenge myself, both physically and creatively.
What can we look forward to seeing from you in the future?
I’m working on some exciting projects that combine traditional craftsmanship with modern design. There will be some innovative techniques—and maybe a few collaborations with other creative minds!
