Designer of the month

Table of Contents

In Knit&Note, you can find knitting patterns by many talented designers, and we want you to get to know them even better! Every month, we will interview one of our designers, get to know them a little better, and maybe learn a few things we didn’t already know. The designer of the month in September is Frida, better known as JordClothing.

Who are you?

I’m Frida Wemberg – a proud native of Molde, a mother of two wonderful boys, a running enthusiast, and a creative spirit.

Tell us a bit about your knitting journey

I’m actually not a knitter myself – except for a few potholders and a whopping seven (!) pumpkins! However, I’ve always been creative and full of ideas. Luckily, I’ve had talented designers like Frida (before) and now Camilla on the team. They can transform my ideas and needs into concrete patterns and garments. My role now is to identify needs, create design plans, and set direction for collections – like the Minibjørn sweater and the Minibjørn cloth. I like to say we combine human and artificial intelligence because artificial intelligence has truly become a tool we are well-acquainted with at JordClothing – I sketch and describe the idea, and Camilla brings them to life.

What made you start designing?

Necessity. As a mother of young children in Jæren, with its challenging weather, I realized how important it is to have garments that fit well and offer protection. Wind that creeps into the bones makes fit and function crucial. Many of JordClothing’s patterns emerge from needs stemming from everyday situations and the children’s requirements – garments that are both practical and beautiful.I often start with needs and ideas – what are we missing, what do customers request, or what have I personally experienced as a mother of young children. Then I sketch my thoughts and set the direction for the design. Our designers, now Camilla, translate this into patterns and concrete garments. My role is to be the link between vision, need, and the finished product.

What inspires your design process?

I’m inspired by people and combinations of style. The simple and delicate that also has a detail or twist making it unique fascinates me the most. I also love drawing inspiration from the fashion world – how trends can be adapted for children and knitwear in a timeless and down-to-earth manner. So, people and needs, really.

What do you do when you’re not knitting?

My days are mostly spent managing JordClothing. I work on everything from customer dialogue and collaboration with House of Yarn, to developing strategic plans with our employees. I find inspiration and pass ideas to Camilla, who translates them into patterns and visual expressions. Recently, we’ve welcomed Camilla from Denmark, who follows the fashion pulse in Copenhagen and further develops the visual expression. I prefer to spend as much time as possible with my children; it’s genuinely the best thing I know. Although wine nights with friends are essential every now and then, I’m never happier than when I’ve had wonderful days with my boys.

What can we look forward to seeing from you in the future?

I’m dreaming of developing even more mom-and-mini designs and exploring new accessories like bags and gift boxes. I also want JC to move more distinctly in a fashion direction – inspired by Copenhagen and international trends, yet always grounded in the Nordic, simple, and sustainable. Our garments should be timeless and simple, but with a small detail that makes them feel unique. Fit and usability are always in focus – it doesn’t help if something looks nice but doesn’t work in everyday life. JC garments should be both beautiful and practical, made for living in.
