The Charlie Cardigan is worked top-down, back and forth in stockinette stitch. It begins with the back, worked flat with German short rows to shape the neckline, followed by shoulder increases. After a straight section, increases are worked for the armholes. Stitches are picked up to work the left and right front separately, with increases to shape the neckline. Additional stitches are cast on at the neckline, and the front sections are worked flat to the armholes. Underarm stitches are then cast on, and the body is worked flat to the hem, finished with ribbing. Stitches are picked up along the armholes to work the sleeves in the round, shaped with short rows. For the button bands, stitches are picked up as well and worked in 1×1 rib. Finally, stitches are picked up to work the collar in 1×1 rib.
