These socks are knitted from the toe up using Judy’s Magic Cast-On. You may also use other cast-on methods such as Turkish Cast-On or Easy Cast-On (you can find video tutorials on YouTube). If you are not familiar with the magic loop technique, you can easily use 2 short circular needles instead. What these cast-on methods have in common is that the cast-on stitches are divided evenly across 2 needles, creating a neat toe. For example, when the pattern states to cast on 16 (20) 24 sts, distribute them as 8 (10) 12 sts on each needle. After the cast-on, you may switch to DPNs if preferred. The sock has an afterthought heel. Stitches are picked up later where a contrast yarn has been knitted in, and the heel is worked at the end. To avoid holes at the sides, you may pick up a couple of extra stitches on the first rnd or sew them closed afterwards.
