The sweater is knit top-down in a cable pattern following the chart. First, the back piece is worked back and forth as a rectangle. Then stitches are picked up for the shoulders along the cast-on edge of the back. Each shoulder is worked back and forth separately, using German Short Rows (GSR) at the beginning of each shoulder to shape them. Stitches are then increased to shape the neckline. The shoulders are joined to form the front piece, while casting on stitches for the neckline. The front is worked further back and forth. The front and back pieces are then joined under the armholes, and the body is knit in the round. To endure a good fit, knit the neckline before the sleeves. Finally, work the sleeves by picking up stitches around the armhole and continuing downward.
