The dress is worked top-down in stockinette stitch. First, the back is knit back and forth as a rectangle. Then, stitches are picked up for the shoulders along the cast-on edge of the back. Each shoulder is worked separately back and forth using German Short Rows (GSR) to shape them. Stitches are increased to form the neckline. The shoulders are joined to form the front while casting on stitches for the neckline. The front is then worked back and forth. The front and back are then joined under the armhole, and the body is worked in the round until the work is divided at one side for a split hem. Sleeves are knit by picking up stitches around the armhole and working downwards. Finally, the neckline is knit.
